Do These Before Using A Skincare Product
It\’s always tempting to buy a skincare product and just start using it immediately. That is almost always a bad idea. There are so many products promising great results and other things, that it can be enticing to use them out of the box. However, you need to make sure to do these first before starting to use the product:
- Know Your Skin Type – There are four types of skin: Oily, Combination, Normal and Dry. So how do you know which is which? Well there\’s an easy way to do that and you can do it at home. When you first wake up in the morning before you shower or wash your face, take a piece of dry cloth. Gently wipe it on your face (forehead, cheeks, and nose). If the cloth has excessive amounts of oil collected from wiping, then you have oily skin. If it didn\’t become oily on most parts of your face, but did on the T area (the nose and around your forehead), then you have combination skin. If the amount of oil is minimal on all parts, then you have normal skin. If there\’s barely any oil collected, then you have dry skin.
- Know the Ingredients – Read the active ingredients in the product. Make sure you\’re not allergic to those ingredients. Substances like aluminum, parabens, synthetic fragrances (and some fragrances in general) can trigger allergic reactions and other auto-immune skin conditions like rosacea.
- Do the Skin Test – Before applying the product onto the directed area, try testing it on a different part of your body. Take a small amount of the product and apply it on there, then see how your skin reacts to it afterwards. This is so you can be sure you won\’t have any negative reactions to the product itself when you do start using it.
- Consult Your Dermatologist – Whether you have doubts about the product you plan on purchasing, or if you just want more information about those types of products, or even if you\’re seeking for the recommendation of a professional, it\’s always a good idea to consult your dermatologist first. As an expert on everything skin-related, they will be able to help you not only choose the right product, but the right way to apply them, and even recommend other related products that can enhance the results you seek.
